Al-ʿAlaq
This sūrah was revealed in Mecca and consists of 19 verses. It orders the Prophet to receive the Qur’an from God through revelation. This is the first sūrah of the Qur’an that was revealed. According to the context of the verses, it could have been revealed all at once, as we shall discuss. It is incontrovertibly Meccan.
