Concept Maps
Mind maps of the great concepts of al-Mizan. Each map gathers what ʿAllāmah Ṭabāṭabāʾī says about one concept across the whole commentary, arranged as he arranges it. Every point is a sentence in his own words, and opens the place in the commentary where he says it.
- Tawḥīd: the oneness of God: what “One” means, His names and attributes, oneness in lordship and in worship, shirk, and tawḥīd as the root of religion.
- Wilāyah: guardianship and authority: what the word means, the wilāyah of God and of the Prophet, “those who believe” in 5:55, and the wilāyah among the believers.
- Shafāʿah: intercession: what intercession is, how the Qur’an denies and affirms it, the false intercession it rejects, who intercedes and for whom.
- ʿIṣmah: infallibility: what ʿiṣmah is and where it comes from, the infallibility of the prophets and of the Imams, and the verses that seem to say otherwise.
- The Soul and its fiṭrah: what the soul is and its states, the soul as the path to God, what fiṭrah is, how it knows its Lord, and one human nature for all.
- The Covenant: “Am I not your Lord?”: 7:172 and the views the ʿAllāmah examines, his own reading, and the covenants of the prophets, of Adam and of the Children of Israel.
- Immutability of the Qur’an: how God preserves the Qur’an, why falsehood cannot approach it, words no one can change, and why the earlier scriptures were not kept the same way.
- Prophethood: what prophethood is and why it is needed, how God speaks to the prophets, prophet and messenger, and religion perfected and sealed.
- Muḥkam and mutashābih: decisive and ambiguous verses: the Mother of the Book, why some verses are ambiguous, what taʾwīl really is, and who knows it.
